Sapp Battery Salvage Superfund Site Partial Deletion

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announces the partial deletion of the Sapp Battery Salvage Superfund Site in Cottondale, Florida from the National Priorities List (NPL), which is Appendix B of the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP). The EPA and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection have determined that all appropriate responses under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), as amended, have been implemented for this partial deletion of Operable Unit 1 and 3. Operable Unit 1 Soils and Source Materials is comprised of the contaminated soils and source materials at the former facility. Operable Unit 3 is comprised of the contaminated sediments and surface water in the adjacent ponds and wetlands. The EPA and the FDEP have determined that remedial actions conducted at the Site to date have been protective of public health, welfare, and the environment. However, this deletion does not preclude future actions under Superfund. To view the Federal Register notice please visit https://www.regulations.gov/docket/EPA-HQ-OLEM-2024-0014. The public is invited to comment on the proposed partial deletion of the Site from the NPL. Written comments should be received by the end of the comment period March 18, 2024.
