Betty Hogan Mitchell (88) of Marianna, died on March 7, 2021, at her home surrounded by family. Betty was an active member of the The First Baptist Church of Marianna, where she sang in the choir for 55 years and attended the Ruth Sunday School class. She was a member of the Marianna Woman’s Club as well as a Sorority member of Alpha Delta Kappa International for 34 years. In 1958 she received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University and subsequently retired from the Jackson County School System. She loved spending time with her grandsons Jake and Hunter, and especially picking them up from the elementary schools from where she had previously taught school.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jay L. Mitchell. Survivors include a son, Stan Mitchell (Nyhokia); daughter, Melanie Mitchell-Muller (Mark), grandsons, Jake Mitchell and Hunter Mitchell.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM., Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Marianna. A private Interment In Pinecrest Memorial Gardens will be officiated by Vince Smith, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Marianna. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
