Timothy “Tim” Hinton Smith, age 69, of Marianna, FL, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at Jackson Hospital. Tim was born December 16, 1953 in Marianna, FL to the late Samuel Hinton Smith, Jr. and Betty Cumbie Smith.

Tim graduated from Marianna High School in 1971 and later attended Troy State University where he received his BME degree. For many years, Tim worked as a Mechanical Engineer for Enviva Pellets until his health declined as was no longer able to work. Tim was a Christ follower and a servent of Jesus Christ. He was a longtime member of Marianna First Baptist Church and a former deacon. Tim deeply loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren and reading his Bible. In his free time, he loved to work on old cars; passing on this hobby to his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his uncle, Dr. William Gary Cumbie and wife, Carolyn of Andalusia, AL; as well as his granddaughter, Hannah Mercy Smith; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Smith.

Tim is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Karen Greening Smith; three sons, Joshua Wade Smith and wife, Melissa of Travelers Rest, SC, Matthew Sean Smith and wife, Sarah of Guatemala, Nathan Cumbie Smith and wife, Kelly of Tallahassee, FL; two brothers, Samuel Earl Smith of Marianna and David Gary Smith and wife, Rachel of Marianna; one sister, Betty Ann Byxbe and husband, Ronald of Dublin, GA; seven grandchildren, Anneliese, Corrin and Lucy Smith, Abbott and Oscar Smith, Wyatt and Easton Smith; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Marianna First Baptist Church Family Life Center with Pastor Vince Smith and John Russell officiating, Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2023 at the Marianna First Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International at (The Gideons International Processing Center, P.O. Box 97251 Washington, DC 20090-7251). Donations can also be made to Teen Missions International Project Fund at (885 East Hall Road Merritt Island, FL 32953).

  1. Sorry for your Loss. When I was very young my Mother (Katie who was deaf) worked for Tim’s Parents as a Housekeeper and Maid for many years. I used to drop her off and pick her up. I am sure you all (kids) probably do not remember/ but I remember when you all were growing up in that beautiful white house in Else Demonde Heights. RIP Tim
