Roger William Kimrey

On Friday, February 19, 2021, Roger William Kimrey, peacefully went home to be with the Lord at the age of 89, surrounded by his family.
Roger was born October 16, 1931, in Cheraw, SC to Brack Monroe and Ruth Allen Kimrey. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Vera Kimrey Davis, brothers Brack Kimrey, Jr., Douglas Kimrey, Ernest Kimrey, and has one surviving sister, Barbara Jean Graham of Cheraw, SC.
Roger was married to Bobbie Rooks Kimrey for 67 years, with children, Kenneth William (Faye), Roger Philip (Penny) and Lee Anne Kimrey Watson (Danny). He had seven grandchildren, William Rentz Kimrey (Caroline) of Auburn, AL, Charles Rooks Kimrey of Chattahoochee, Shelley Kimrey Lopez (Tim) of Tallahassee, Caroline Kimrey McRee (Chad) of Mobile, AL, Grace Kimrey Baird (Adam) of Bowling Green, KY, Luke Watson (Julie) of Seoul, South Korea and Katie Watson Genzer (Randy) of Houston, TX. Roger had two great-grandchildren, Aiden Nathanial Kimrey and Dante Marie Lopez.
Roger graduated from Cheraw High School served in the Army National Guard and moved to Chattahoochee for the land survey work of Lake Seminole (and Jim Woodruff Dam). He soon began a career with Gulf Power Company, married Bobbie and raised a family. Roger was an active member in the First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, led committees and faithfully served the Lord in various ministries.
He retired after thirty-nine years with Gulf Power and then served helping others with Baptist Disaster Relief work in the Southeast, as well as ramp projects to help those in the community. He was an avid fisherman who shared many hours on the water with good friends and family. He spent hours on the ham radio, connecting with people across the country, as well as playing golf and wood working. He was a lover of God’s creation, especially birds and the beauty of the mountains.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 22, 5:00-7:00 PM EST, at McAlpin Funeral Home in Sneads, FL, and a celebration of his life at the First Baptist Church of Chattahoochee, on Tuesday, February 23, at 2:00 PM EST. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Chattahoochee, FL. Flowers are appreciated or contributions in his honor to the Florida Baptist Disaster Relief.
The family would like to thank the staff of Covenant Care Hospice for their tender care of Roger during the past months.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, face coverings should be worn by attendees while indoors and social distancing practiced as recommended by the CDC.

  1. Mr Kimrey thanks for always being such a great friend to my granddaddy (Jim Shouppe) now as granddaddy use to say maybe you will quit playing that golf so y’all can get back on the lakes in heaven!!! Tell him I said tighten up!
