Mary Nell Harris, 79, of Bascom died, Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Jackson Hospital. She was born January 22, 1944 to Arthur and Thelma Ray in Chattahoochee. She was a loving wife to her husband, Charles, until his passing. After his death, she worked tirelessly to provide the best life to her young children. From 1989 to 2006 she worked at Sunland as a Human Service Worker. She was a lifelong member of Lovedale Baptist Church and one of the most important things to her was that she and her children attended church. Even when they did not have a car, they made the mile-long walk to church together to be there for Sunday School and Sunday Worship. It never mattered the circumstance, she was always smiling and had a kind word to share. She was a simple woman and never complained. Mary Nell loved to cook, garden, can, and listen to old country music. She believed in “If you feed them, they will come” and she loved nothing more than to feed those she loved. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Harris; parents, Arthur Ray and Thelma Hart Ray; brother, William Ray. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Harris, Donald Harris, Zachary Harris; grandsons, Zane and Zeth Harris; and sister, Sharon Charles. Funeral services will be 10 AM Thursday, July 27, 2023 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Pastors John Lawrence and Thomas Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Lovedale Baptist Church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
