Charly Louis Mabardy, aged 69, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2023, in Tallahassee, Florida. Born on October 3, 1953, in Bamberg, Germany, Charly was a man of service, thoughtfulness, and relentless spirit. His life was a testament to the words of Albert Einstein, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”

Charly was the beloved son of the late Harold C. Mabardy and Ella Christoph Mabardy. He was predeceased by his brother, David Mabardy, father-in-law, J. O. Stephens; mother-in-law, Mary Stephens, and sister-in-law, Milvia Mabardy. Remembered fondly by his surviving brothers, Karl and Harold (Cindy) Mabardy and sister-in-law, Virginia Stephens Jones, Charly will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

Charly was the cherished husband of Beverly Stephens Mabardy for 46 beautiful years. They shared many of life’s blessings, including their two adored daughters, Kristy Mabardy Ward (Matt) and Ginny Mabardy Osborn (Paul). Charly was a doting grandfather to Dylan Osborn and Blake Ward, always present at their games and school events. His nieces and nephews, Will Jones, Brooke Mabardy, Barbara Cato (Ron), and Michela Tavolieri (Scott), along with countless extended family members and friends, will miss his wit, wisdom, and warmth.

Graduating from Chattahoochee High School in 1972, Charly’s life was a journey of continuous learning and commitment to service. He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1972 to 1976 before dedicating 34 years to law enforcement agencies across Florida. His work in law enforcement began in 1977, culminating in his retirement in 2011. Charly’s dedication to his community extended to his personal interests, officiating various high school sporting events in the local area for many years.

Charly’s love for his family was only matched by his love for learning. In 2022, he achieved a personal milestone by earning his black belt in Tae Kwon Do at the same academy his grandson Dylan attended. He was a passionate reader and an adept crossword solver, fearlessly completing them in ink. His love for the silver screen was a family affair, often taking his loved ones to the movies. Charly’s interesting life and selfless nature made him a pillar of his community and a beacon of strength for his family.

Charly’s legacy is one of service, love, and resilience. His kindness and thoughtfulness will be remembered by all who knew him. As we celebrate Charly’s life, we remember a man who lived each day fully, always putting others before himself. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us. Rest in peace, Charly Louis Mabardy, a life lived for others, a life worthwhile.

A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Charly will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 1:00 PM Eastern Time in the McAlpin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Stephens and Rev. Conrad Salter officiating. There will be a time of visitation immediately following the memorial service.
