James Milton Johns age 96, a native of Jackson County, Florida, has resided in Chattahoochee, Florida area since 1969, originally coming from Cottondale, Florida. He was a proud WWII veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy. James worked and retired as a firefighter for the Florida State Hospital and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chattahoochee.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of seventy-two years, Lucy Inez Johns.

James is survived by one daughter, Jeanette Chestnut and her husband Harlan of Crawfordville, Florida; two sons, Robert M. Johns and his wife Alice Jo of Bainbridge, Georgia and Richard M. Johns of Dothan, Alabama; one sister, Willie Mae Cook of Chipley, Florida; two sisters-in-laws, Ella Jo Kennedy of Dothan, Alabama and Alice R. Watson of Lynn Haven, Florida. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services for Mr. James will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. Eastern Time at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Chattahoochee, Florida with Reverend Robert Johns and Reverend B.J. Johns officiating. Due to the rise of Covid-19, the family has requested that attendees wear a mask.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (4899 Belfort Rd Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256).

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of Signature Healthcare at the Courtyard.
