Helen Marie Downward, 93, of Compass Lake Hills, died Sunday, March 6, 2022 at South East Medical Center.
She was born January 23, 1929 in Marshallton, Delaware, one of five daughters to Ernest and Florence Lacey. Immediately following her marriage to Marcie William Downward, they moved to Fort Pierce, Florida in 1961. After retirement, the couple moved to the panhandle where she lived until 1997. Three years after the passage of her husband, Helen and her daughter moved near Compass Lake Hills.
Helen was a very crafty artistic person. She loved to read, create things and garden. Always kind and gentle, she would sacrifice her wishes for her family. Once she had her mind set on something, her stubborn streak would shine until she got what she was after. Anyone who got the privilege to know and love Helen, will miss her greatly.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Downward; stepson, Kurt Downward; sisters, Ruth Jane Hopkins of Wilmington, DE, and Ernestine Cox of Clayton, DE.
Helen requested cremation and no service. In lieu of flowers, her daughter asks that contributions to geriatric studies be made in Helen’s name.
