Claude Earnest McGill Sr. passed away at his home in Wewahitchka, Florida on Saturday, July
18, 2020, surrounded by his wife and daughter following a lengthy illness. Brother McGill was a
minister of the gospel for over 50 years and under his leadership oversaw the construction of
several church buildings as well as serving as Pastor to seven churches. He dearly loved the Lord and was a faithful servant who desired to be a blessing to everyone. He was an avid gardener and in his later years he was the owner and operator of Mac’s Nursey in Kinard, FL. One of the joys of his life was the process of planting and watching things grow. He loved being able to see the results of his labor and he thoroughly enjoyed sharing his knowledge of horticulture with others.

He deeply loved spending time with his family, playing pranks, telling jokes and sharing stories
with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Bertie (Daniels) McGill, 4 children, Lynn Barnes
(Keith), Carolyn Husband (Bruce), Iris Scurlock (Eddie), Claude McGill Jr. (Lynn); 13
Grandchildren, Shanon Kyser(Justin), Krystal Hendricks, Heather Braxton (Brian), Laura Suber
(Jeremy), Holly Burnett (Jordan), Taylor Husband (Claire), Travis McGill (Katie), Trent McGill
(Jessica), Trey McGill (Amelia), Haley Scurlock (Tyler Ballard), Tripp McGill, Blake Barnes
(Caitlin), Brett Barnes (Crysta); 8 great-grandchildren: Tanner Kyser, Laila Suber, Landon
Suber, Noelle Kyser, Emma Braxton, Ellie Braxton, Journey Burnett, and Ava Barnes; one sister
Pearl Via (Ralph), 1 brother Ronald McGill, two sister in laws, Lucille McGill and Jane Ann
McGill, a host of nieces, nephews and Special friends Jason and Amy Miller along with the staff
of Anchor Home Health Care

He was preceded in death by his parents Elmo and Ada McGill, 3 brothers, Richmond, Johnny
and Charles McGill, two sisters, Gladys Odom and Joyce Raley.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 1, 2020 at Glad Tidings Assembly of God
Church in Wewahitchka, FL. A visitation hour will begin at 10:00 AM followed by the service at
11:00 AM. Pastor’s Claude McGill, Jr., Juno Douglas and Joey Smith will be officiating.
Interment will follow at Cypress Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as active
pallbearers are Taylor Husband, Travis McGill, Tripp McGill, Trey McGill, Brett Barnes and
Tyler Ballard. Expressions of sympathy in the form of flowers will be accepted or those that desire may make a donation in memory of Claude McGill to the Kinard Volunteer Fire Department.

Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the family has requested that all attendees wear face covering and abide by social distancing guidelines.
