William L. “Bill” Smothers

William L. “Bill” Smothers, 81, passed away on February 12, 2019 in Marianna, FL. He was born on August 27, 1937 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Leonard and Pauline Smothers. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Central State College in Edmond, OK and his Master’s of Liberal Arts degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.  The majority of Bill’s Professional career was spent in Human Resource Management. He loved playing golf and spending time with his family and friends. He was known for his sense of humor and was truly a fun person to be around.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chipley, FL and enjoyed singing with the choir.  

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Ruth Bathe and brother-in-law Robert Bathe.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edith Herring Smothers; his two sons, Eric W. Smothers and wife Shannon of Alpharetta, GA and Christopher L. Smothers and wife Nikol of Orange City, FL.; and his nephew, Garrett Bathe of Midwest City, OK. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church of Chipley, FL at 11:00 am with Dr. Robert McKibben and Rev. Ebb Hagan officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Chipley Choir fund or online donations can be made at MakeaMiracle.net or mailed to “204 N. Esplanade, Alpharetta, GA 30009” to fund the building of a house for a special family in Peru in memory of Bill.
