Mr. Edward Lee Cotton age 85 of Marianna, FL passed away Sunday September 10, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 23rd at St. John Missionary Baptist Church located at 3903 Missouri Rd. Marianna, Fl with, Pastor Alonzo Wilburn officiating and McKinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton, FL directing.
A public viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, September 22nd at St. John Missionary Baptist Church.
Edward Lee Cotton was born May 18th 1938 in Jackson County Florida to the late Reverend Theodore Cotton and the late Rebecca Sims.
He accepted Christ and joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Marianna, Florida where he was a devoted Deacon for 30 plus years. He supported the mission of the Church and the pastor.
He was a graduate of the Jackson County Training School in Marianna Florida. On January 27, 1963 he married Louvina Allen (Honey).
He worked as a cottage parent for 28 years at Sunland Center in Marianna FL. He was well-liked by the staff and clients at Sunland. He was dedicated to the support of his family.
He had a strong passion for farming the land which produced tasty vegetables (okra, corn, tomatoes, peas, etc.) and juicy sweet watermelon that fed his family of eleven and people within the community. He loved fishing, hunting, eating wild game (rabbit, squirrel, possum, raccoon, and barbecue goat) and most of all he enjoyed making his own cane syrup from the cane he grew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Emma and Sandra Sims; two brothers: John Cotton and David Hunter.
He leaves cherished memories of 60 years with his beloved and devoted wife: Louvina Allen Cotton; nine children: Reverend Carlton Lee Cotton, (Sharon) of Marianna, FL, Lisa Green (Arlando) of Smithfield, VA, Edward Lee Cotton and Patricia Wilson (Michael) of West Columbia, SC, Jerome Cotton and Napoleon Cotton (Attallah) of Dothan AL, Daris Gore (Bryan) of Conway, SC, Timothy Raeford (Isley) of NC, and Tawanna Tanner (Eddie) of Chipley, FL; three brothers: Lindsey Sims, Albert Sims (Bennie Mae) and Richard Sims (Crystal ) All of Augusta, GA; five sisters: Wanda Coleman (Henry), Brenda Ann Sims, Cynthia Quinonez, Alice William and Devon Cooper all of Augusta GA; sister-in-law: Patsy Cotton of Ohio; twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who he loved dearly.

  1. I have known Mr. Cotton when I was little when he came with his tractor plowing my parents yard for a garden. The next time I worked with him was at Sunland for many years and at the church aswell. His memories still lives and forever in our hearts. Mr. Cotton will be missed..
