Mittie Yvonne Neel, 72, of Blountstown, Florida, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at her home near Scott’s Ferry. Mittie was born December 19, 1950, in Marinna to the late Harry Ford Neel and Ethell Vernice (Rabon) Neel. She was a life-long resident of Calhoun County. She graduated from Blountstown High School in 1970 and Polk Community College in 1973 where she received a degree in Library Technology. Unable to find work in her degree area, Mittie worked for a number of years at Jim’s Steak House in Marianna. In April 1980, she was hired to work at the library in Blountstown. She quickly advanced her career and for many years, she held the position of Branch Manager and was known by County Commissioners as “Miss Library Lady”. She also served as a Notary Public. When she retired in September 2019, she was the Cataloging Services Manager. Mittie was a voracious reader and enjoyed painting in her spare time. Survivors include a brother, Harry Eugene Neel and his wife Cathy of Tallahassee, Florida; and a sister, Shirley Fay Neel Meaux and her husband, Donald of Gueydan, Louisiana. Also, her 101-year-old Aunt Beulah (Rabon) Deese of Jennings, Louisiana; four nephews: Donnie Meaux and wife, Kathy of Gueydan; John Neel and wife, Rebecca of Tallahassee; Justin Neel and wife, Melody of Tallahassee; Jared Neel and fiancée, Jessica of Tracy City, Tennessee. Also, a host of great- nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and other extended family. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:00 AM CT at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown, Florida. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am CT until service time. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
