Lloyd Eugene “Gene” Kornegay of Cypress, Florida age 59, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 7, 1960 in Orlando, Florida. Gene was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Gene’s children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of his kind spirit, passion for his country, and zest of life will live on through them. Gene was a devout Christian and member of the Grand Ridge Church of God where he attended faithfully when he was able. He loved music and making music. Gene enjoyed playing the guitar, writing songs and singing. He was a genuinely funny man who enjoyed a good joke or prank and always had a smile on his face. Gene will be missed but not forgotten.
Gene is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Kornegay Derryberry (Jerry) of Marianna, FL; sons, Edwin “Eddie” Eugene Kornegay of Marianna, FL and Sherman Kornegay of Marianna, FL; sisters, Gale Conrad of Marianna, FL and Beverly McMullian (Greg) of Sneads FL; a brother, Lamar Kornegay of Grand Ridge, FL; step daughter, Elizabeth Michelle Johnson of Marianna; step sons, Alvah L. Johnson IV of Sherman, TX and Billy J. Johnson of Marianna, FL as well as three precious grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife, Michelle Irene Pease Kornegay; his mother, Wanda Lou Baxley; his father, Audice E. Kornegay; a brother, Edwin R. Kornegay; and maternal grandparents, C.R. and Myra Stanley.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM Central Time on Friday, September 13, 2019 at McAlpin Funeral Home in Sneads, FL with Rev. Wallace Godwin and Rev. Charles Hewitt officiating. Visitation with family and friends will begin one hour prior to services at 1:00 PM Central Time. Interment will be in Shady Grove Cemetery.
