James William “Buddy” Prather, 88 of Cottondale, Florida died Friday, October 6, 2023 at Jackson Hospital. He was born to Pearl and George William Prather, Sr. in St. Cloud, Florida on November 14, 1934.
He grew up in St. Cloud and served in the U S Army on an overseas tour. Buddy was a three-county deputy sheriff for the Mormon Ranch in the 60’s. He raised honeybees; and was a volunteer firefighter in Narcoosee, Florida for 30 years. Buddy grew plants for landscaping and donated plants to many folks over the years. He would do anything to help others. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Hill Prather of 55 years, as well as his parents. Buddy is survived by three sons, Terry Prather, Ronnie Prather, Rockie Prather, and one daughter, Liz Tyner; 13 grandkids; 18 great-grandkids; along with four nieces and nephews.
Memorialization will be cremation with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
