Deacon Willie James Pittman, Sr., known affectionately as Deacon Pittman or Buddy, to all who were graced by his presence, embarked on his heavenly journey on March 18, 2024, at the age of 93.

Deacon Pittman’s legacy is one of unwavering faith and boundless love. From his early years under the guidance of the Reverend A. H. Parker at Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church, his devotion to his faith was as steadfast as his commitment to his family and community. His work with the Bay Line Railroad spanned three decades, showcasing his dedication and work ethic, but it was his ability to connect with people that truly set him apart.

Deacon Pittman was a man who never met a stranger, touching lives with his warmth and genuine interest in others.

He lived a life rich with relationships, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Deacon Pittman leaves behind a loving and extensive family, including his children Debera Collins, Lucy Owens and her husband Edward, Willie James Pittman, Jr., Richard Pittman, Sr., and Lilton Pittman with his wife Sarah. His memory will also be cherished by his sister Lena Malone, his brother Joe Pittman with his wife Evelyn, his sister-in-law Lorene Pittman, and his fifteen grandchildren, along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Public visitation will be on Friday, March 29, 2024 beginning at 12:00 noon until funeral time of 1:00 PM, at Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church, Jacob City, Florida with the Reverend Obadiah White, Pastor/Teacher officiating.

Deacon Pittman will be laid to rest in the church cemetery under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.
