Charles Gale Roberts, age 74, of Chipley, Florida passed on June 21, 2021. Gale as he was known, though his personal preference was Charles, was born September 3, 1946 in Chipley, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert R. Roberts, Jr. and Ruby Carnell (Nell) Roberts of Chipley. Gale is survived by a brother, Bert R. Roberts III and wife Susan of Chipley, a nephew, Craig Roberts of Chipley and a niece, Heather Roberts of Tampa, Florida. He is also survived by two great nieces, Ashley Lovering and husband Brandon, and Amber Peel and husband Colby, of Chipley as well as a great nephew, Josh Roberts and wife Jennifer of Iwakuni, Japan.
Gale graduated from Chipley High School in 1964 and continued his education at Chipola Junior College. His Education was interrupted by the Vietnam War where Gale served two tours as a helicopter Mechanic/crew chief. Gale was awarded the Purple Heart as a result of his service. After completing his military service, Gale returned to school where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Troy University. Upon graduation, Gale worked for the Florida Department of Transportation in Chipley in traffic operations until his retirement. Gale loved traveling, western movies, aviation and attending knife shows. Gale was an individualist who went his own way without a lot to say, but was a very thoughtful and generous person.
The family is requesting a private military graveside service Thursday, June 24, 2021. Flowers are welcome and the family will appreciate memorials to Emerald Coast Hospice in Chipley, Florida as well as The Gideons International, P.O. Box 1042, Chipley, Florida.
