Willie Earl Dickens, known affectionately as Earl, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Born on September 11, 1955, Earl’s life was a testament to his love for his family, his community, and his faith.
Earl was preceded by his parents, Hayes and Annie Dickens, and his brothers, Ronnie Lewis Dickens and Donnie Hayes Dickens. He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Dickens, his devoted daughters, Pam Hill and her husband, Eric; and Sarah Harrison, and her husband, Cory; his cherished grandchildren, Alli Hill, Addyson Hill, Kaylee Harrison, Kendall Harrison, and Asher Harrison. His sisters, Becky Williams of Dothan, AL; Sheila McDaniel and her husband Randy, of Sneads, FL; and Rosie Austin and her husband Coby, of Choctaw, OK, also survive him.
Raised in Sneads, Earl was a lifelong resident who deeply valued education. He attended Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University where he attained his Bachelors in Criminal Justice. He retired from Florida State Hospital after 30 years of service as a security officer. His commitment to his community shone brightly in his work and his service as a volunteer fire fighter at the Sneads Fire Department. Earl’s dedication to helping others in their time of need was a testament to his kind and caring nature.
An avid outdoorsman, Earl loved hunting and fishing, as well as carpentry, often sharing the fruits of his labors with friends and family. He also enjoyed gardening, finding peace and satisfaction in tending to his plants and watching them grow.
In addition to his outdoor pursuits, Earl was a fan of word searches, often seen with a book and pen in hand, working on the latest puzzle. His love for the written word was a reflection of his sharp mind and his constant desire to learn and grow.
Always active in his community, Earl was a faithful member of the Shady Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. His faith was a significant part of his life, providing him with strength and comfort. He was also a member of the Fly-tyer Fly Fishing Lewers, where he combined his love for fishing with his knack for craftsmanship.
Of all his accomplishments, his favorite role was being a papa to his grandchildren. Earl’s life was one filled with love, service, and dedication. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His passing leaves a void that will be filled with the memories of his love, his laughter, and his unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be 11:30 A.M. Friday, November 10, 2023 at Shady Grove Pentecostal Church with Pastor Coy Collins and Pastor Ken Bohannon officiating. Interment will follow in Pope Cemetery with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at Shady Grove Pentecostal Church.
