Virginia Frances Melvin of Marianna, FL, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 10, 2024. Mrs. Melvin was born Virginia Frances Davis on June 7, 1952, in Steele City, FL. She attended Cottondale High School, graduating on June 8, 1970. After attending Chipola Junior College for 2 1/2 years, she moved to Tallahassee in search of employment, working from October through December 1973.
In January 1974, she enrolled in Florida State University, graduating in 1976 with a degree in nutrition. Returning to Steele City, she lived with her parents and worked various jobs for two years. While working at one such job, she met Kenneth Roy Melvin, whom she married on August 18, 1974.
The couple resided in Marianna, FL, where Mrs. Melvin later was employed by Sunland Training Center, where she worked for 33 1/2 years until retiring in October 2015.
Mrs. Melvin was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth Roy Melvin; grandson, Hunter James Melvin; her parents, Joe and Lucille Davis; brother, James Davis; and sisters, Phoebe Davis and Ellen Williams.
She is survived by her son, Anthony Adam Melvin, and wife, Alison Melvin; grandson, Micah Melvin; and sister-in-law, Toni Melvin, all of Marianna. She is also survived by her brothers, John Vickery Davis (Mary) of Mobile, AL, William Davis of Denham, LA, and Donald Davis (Kay) of Tampa, FL.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 17, 2024, at Eastside Baptist Church with Dr. David Beigle officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
