Sherwin Progress Anderson (Andy), age 84, passed away on November 2, 2020.  He was born on May 4, 1936 in Florala, AL to the late Rural and Allie Anderson of Chipley, FL.

Andy is survived by his two children, William Rose, Odessa, FL and Jessica Brack, Chapel Hill, NC; five grandchildren, Tyler Rose, Emily Rose Almeida, Abigail Rose, Kathryn Brack, and Samantha Brack; three nephews, Kenneth Stanton, Morey Stanton, and Glenn Stanton.

Andy served his country in numerous ways, starting out by enlisting in the Army in 1956 and becoming a helicopter mechanic stationed in Germany and then by joining The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).  After the ATF, he transitioned into the Department of Transportation, which he retired from.  In his personal time, Andy enjoyed fishing, hunting, and he also operated a successful gunsmithing business where he developed a reputation for being able to fix and restore just about anything from broken to fire damaged firearms.  Later in his life, he turned that gunsmithing passion toward woodworking where he became a Master Woodturner producing beautiful bowls, plates, flower vases, and pens to name a few things.  It was quite common for Andy to fall asleep at night with his trusty iPad in his lap because he was watching videos learning new techniques in wood turning. He was fiercely loyal to his friends and family and will be missed by all.

A memorial service for Sherwin will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of service. A private interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Mask wearing and social distancing will be adhered to at the service and masks will be made available at the door.

In honor of Andy’s lifelong commitment to learning and teaching life skills to others, memorial contributions may be made to the Sherwin P. Anderson Memorial Scholarship at Chipola College.  The scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in the Chipola Workforce Program.  Checks should be made payable to the Chipola College Foundation, 3094 Indian Circle, Marianna, FL  32446 and indicate that the donation is for the Sherwin P. Anderson Memorial Scholarship.
