Polly Herring Roberts passed away peacefully on July 19th with her daughter by her side
after a long and courageous struggle of overwhelming health complications. Polly was
68 years old and had the assurance and faith of being accepted into her heavenly home.
She was born on May 11, 1955, in Dothan, Ala. to Dwiot Holmes Herring and Voncile
Culpepper Herring.


In her early years, Polly was a licensed insurance agent with Ormond Insurance agency
in Marianna, Fla. Later in life, she relocated to Columbus Ga. where she married the
love and joy of her life, Gary Roberts. After moving to Columbus, Polly pursued the true
passion of her life, cooking. She was the owner/operator of the Park Place Deli for
several years in the historic district of Columbus. She retired from that business and
continued her love of cooking working from home with Cakes by Polly providing
delicious treats to local customers.


Polly was a generous daughter, mother and sister always looking for a bargain someone,
somehow may need. Her love of cooking followed her providing food and meals to
anyone she felt in need. God worked through Polly offering and providing assistance to
all she felt needed help. She was extremely loyal and dedicated to her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Roberts, mother-in-law Francis Roberts
and her father Dwiot Herring.


She is survived by her mother, Voncile Herring, daughter Morgan (Brad) Taylor of
Columbus Ga., grandchildren Gannon and Madison of Columbus. Sophia, Mason,
Brayden, Maddux of Port Huron, Michigan. Her brother Tim (Mary) Herring of Malone,
Fla., brother Buddy (Melissa) Herring of Tallahassee, Fla, and sister Judy Childs of
Hartford. Ala. Nephews Adam (Madison) Herring, Lee (Kim) Herring of Malone, Polly
also enjoyed extended family connections with Kim (Sharon) Callaway and all of his
great family. Polly had a loving and cherished church family at Mount Olive Baptist
Church. The family is forever grateful to cousin Kay Sevick, and her sons, Zack and
Cliff, who have made several trips from Sacramento, CA providing much needed support
and help. Also grateful to good friend, Jane Stephens, who steadfastly provided
companionship and assistance to Polly during extended stays at the Mayo Clinic in
Jacksonville. Polly had a very valued friend, Charles Ray Baxter, who generously
maintained her yard and offered support throughout her two-year health struggle.
Memorial services will be on July 30th at 2 PM at the Mount Olive Baptist Church
located in Bascom, Fla. with Pastor James Newell officiating. The family will receive
friends at her mother’s home afterwards.
