Clara Lavell Cox-Neel of Sneads, Florida passed away peacefully at home on September 4, 2023, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Jackson County, Florida on March 23, 1950, to Samuel Cox and Lena “Truda” Weston Cox.
Lavell graduated from Sneads High School in 1968. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1983 from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She was employed with the US Marine Corps Logistics Command in Albany, Georgia and transferred in 1994 to the offices in Tallahassee, Florida. She retired from the US Marine Corps Recruitment offices in Tallahassee, Florida. Lavell was truly beautiful inside and out. She always had a smile on her face and freely gave nice compliments to those she encountered. Though her sweet spirit wasn’t quite ready, her body gave out. Our comfort is knowing that she is free from pain and suffering and now reunited with her beloved mom and family in heaven.
She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Lavell was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James Samuel Cox and Robert Howell Cox; sisters, Robbie Cox McAlpin and Jennie Cox Sneads and a nephew, Larry Magourik. She is survived by her brother, Jimmie Cox and his wife Janice; her sister, Lorrena Cox Benbo; a sister-in-law, Ann Cox; many special nephews and nieces; as well as numerous other relatives and friends including childhood friends Janice Cloud and Terri and Almer Williams. Lavell’s family is forever grateful for the care she received from the doctors, nurses and other staff at Jackson Hospital, Courtyard Healthcare Center, Covenant Home Care, Covenant Hospice, EMT Services and Sneads Volunteer Firefighters.
Graveside services for Lavell will be in the Circle Hill Cemetery on Thursday, September 7, 2023, beginning at
11:00 AM Central Time with Dr. Juno Douglas officiating and McAlpin Funeral Home directing.
