Jeff D. Cumbaa passed away on January 29, 2024 at his home in Cottondale, Florida. He was born in Cottondale on March 7, 1930 to the late Judge Leon Cumbaa and Lucy Barber Cumbaa.
Jeff was a graduate of Adult Education of Jackson County before joining the Army on January 9, 1952. During his service, Jeff was deployed to the Korean Conflict. After his service, he was a mechanic by trade and retired in 1990 from the Jackson County Road and Bridge Department. Jeff has been a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Cottondale since 1963. He served the Lord wherever he was needed. He loved his Lord and his church family dearly.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents; as well as five brothers, Leonus Cumbaa, Drew Cumbaa, Alton Cumbaa, Houston Barber, and Milton Barber; eight sisters, Ester Cumbaa Melvin, Liza Cumbaa Holly, Ruth Cumbaa Branning, Alma Cumbaa Johnson, Carrie Barber Christmas, Ester Barber, Ethel Barber Akins, and Mary Cumbaa Meadows.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Tommie; daughter, Gina Sheppard and husband, Dr. Lee, of Forsyth, GA; grandchildren, Matthew Sheppard and wife Dalia, of Landover, MD; Micah Sheppard of Macon, GA; Megan Sheppard of Forsyth, GA; sister in law, Edith Barber of Panama City, FL.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved greatly.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 2, 2024 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Lee Sheppard officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
