Wanda Loraine Johnson, 76, of Greenwood, Florida died Monday, June 14, 2023 at The Courtyard.
Wanda was born January 13, 1947 in Jackson County to Chester and Corine Powell. She attended Greenwood High School and then married the love of her life, Charles Alex Johnson. Together, they raised two kids and had four wonderful grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
She was a member of Bascom Assembly of God where she served as the treasurer for a number of years. Wanda, was a loving and hardworking wife and mother. She worked for Sunland, and later Jackson Correctional Institution while raising her family. After Charles’s passing, she retired from the Department of Corrections.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Alex Johnson; parents, Chester Earl and Corine Mitchell Powell; son, James Anthony Johnson; and sister, Linda Wilkinson.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Loraine Hewett; grandchildren, Chaison Alexander Johnson and wife, Rebecca, Kirsten Brianna Hewett, Kaylee Ranae Long, and husband, Lance, Tyler Blayne Hewett, and also great-grandson, Weston Doug Colson; and a special sister-in-law, Carolyn Evon Darby.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Welcome Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday, June 16, 2023 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.
