Mrs. Mary Lou Smith Henderson, age 78, transitioned from this earth on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at her residence in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday October 7th at Greater St. Luke A. M. E. Church located at 5255 11th Avenue Malone, FL with Pastor Jessie Douglas officiating, Interment will follow in the church cemetery with McKinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton directing.
Mary Lou Henderson was born on December 20, 1944 to the late Ponder Tom Smith and Littina Mount Smith of Malone, Florida. She was raised in a Christian home, accepted Christ at an early age and joined (Greater St. Luke AME Church in Malone, Florida) and is currently a member of Christ Fellowship Church in Miami, Florida.
Mary was a retired educator and was employed as a reading specialist by the Miami-Dade County School system. She also owned and operated the Higher Performance Learning Center in Miami, Florida.
She achieved a BS and Master Degree as a reading specialist at George Washington University in Washington, DC.
Mary loved to travel, but more importantly, she loved her family and friends.
She loved to care for her brothers/family and it was evident by her bright energetic smile and her soft spoken words of love.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ponder Tom and Littina Mount Smith, her brothers Lee Espy Smith, Sr., Kermit “K.W.” Smith, Willie J. Smith, Tom Smith Jr. and daughter, Angela Henderson Daye.
Mary leaves to celebrate her legacy, a loving family. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Loyal Henderson of Miami, FL, Son, Loyal Henderson III of Washington, DC and Son-in-law, Gene Daye of Cury North Carolina. Sister Virginia Wright of Jacksonville, Florida.
Sister-in-laws Jane Henderson Fenner (Henry) of Mechanicsville, Virginia; Rev. Kathlean Smith, Maglean Smith, and Daisy Smith all of Malone, Florida, and a host of nieces and nephews.
