Mrs. Mary Frances Basford, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 12, 2023, in Marianna, Florida. Born on May 13, 1943, in Colquitt, Georgia, Mary Frances was the embodiment of love, friendliness, and courage.

Mary Frances was welcomed into the world by her parents, Mr. Buford Steins Cross and Mrs. Mary Lizzie Daniels Cross. Though they preceded her in death, their teachings and values were embedded in the fabric of her life. Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Mr. Gary Jerome Basford. Their love story is a testament to an unbreakable bond of love, understanding, and partnership.

Mary Frances was a pillar of strength and love to her children, setting an example of love and compassion. She is survived by her sons, Gary Jay Basford, and Greggory Basford, and her daughters, Mary Alice Edwards and her husband Howard, Barbara Hancock, and Crystal Basford. Her legacy lives on with her children, who will forever cherish the delightful memories of their loving mother.

Mary Frances was also the cherished sister of Lawson Cross and his wife Sheila, Barbara Jean Allen, Faye Nolf and her husband Eddie, and Betty Jo Lowe. Her family circle extended to ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom brought immense joy to Mary’s life.

A dedicated homemaker, Mary Frances poured her soul into making her home a haven of love and warmth. She nurtured her family with love and care, instilling strong values in her children. Outside her delightful home, Mary Frances welcomed everyone with open arms, earning the admiration of many who knew her. She was often described as a friend to everyone, a testament to her kindhearted nature and infectious warmth.

Among many attributes, Mary Frances possessed a unique love for the beauty of nature. She was particularly fond of roses and birds, specifically hummingbirds. The sight of them fluttering about her beloved roses brought her immense joy. Her garden was a manifestation of her love of beauty, always blossoming with her favorite flowers that she tended to with such love and care.

Mary Frances harbored a deep love for travel. Her eyes often sparked with excitement as she told tales of her trips, especially those to the mountains. The serenity and breathtaking views offered her a sense of peace and solace, never failing to inspire awe in her heart.

Mary Frances Basford’s life radiated love, compassion, and unwavering courage. She epitomized a heart filled with endless love for her family and friends. Her life was a testament to her character – a woman who loved deeply, cherished her family, and embraced both the small moments and grand adventures life offered.

Although her physical presence is no longer amongst us, Mary Frances’ remarkable spirit lives on in the lives she touched. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her, leaving an ineffaceable mark of her beautiful soul. In life and in death, Mary Frances Basford is fondly remembered by all of those blessed to know her. May her soul rest in joyful peace.

A Memorial Visitation for Mary Frances will be in the chapel of McAlpin Funeral Home on Friday, September 15, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Central Time with McAlpin Funeral Home directing.
