James “Jim” Allen Wyckoff, 76, of Sneads, died on Friday, July 21st, 2023, at the Courtyard in Marianna. He was born on September 12, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Charles and Helene Wyckoff. Jim attended Marion Military Institute and then pursued a degree in computer science at Georgia Tech University. During his second year, he was drafted for the Vietnam War and served in the Navy as an Electronics Technician for 6 years. Towards the end of his enlistment, in Pensacola, he met the love of his life, Jean Wyckoff, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. He received his computer science degree from the University of West Florida in 1975 and shortly thereafter moved to Gainesville to work at the University of Florida and the State of Florida Uniftran Board of Regents. There, he supervised and designed Student Health service computer programs and complex automated systems for administrative computer services. In April of 1980, he moved to Sneads, Florida, where he worked as a Data Processing Manager for Lehigh Portland Cement, Furniture Division. In 1984, he founded his own computer software company, DP Solutions, later known as SoftWork. His company designed, implemented, and installed computer systems for numerous gas stations and lumber companies in the northwest Florida area. He ran his company successfully for 16 years. He finished out his career at Florida State University as the coordinator of computer applications. He was very active with the Florida Jaycees from 1973-1983, serving as President of District 3 (1977-78) and District 22 (1981-82) along with many other positions. He was also deeply involved in his children’s sports, never missing a game, and volunteering to coach several teams in football, baseball, and soccer. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and often took them on trips to the beach. James Wyckoff was preceded in death by his son, Sean Wyckoff, and his parents, Charles and Helene Wyckoff. He is survived by his wife, Jean Wyckoff; sons, Hugh Ryan (Tara) Wyckoff, C.J. (Jessica) Wyckoff; sisters, Jean Wyckoff, and Jan Sullivan; brother, Tommy (Jan) Wyckoff; five grandchildren: Savannah, Liam, and Camden Wyckoff, Hannah and Haley McKinney, and a host of family, friends, and loved ones. Funeral services will be 3 PM Friday, July 28, 2023 at Salem Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
