Jackie Oliver Sewell, Age 80, of Altha passed away, Friday, Sept 8, 2023, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan Alabama. Jackie was born on March 15, 1943, in Orangeburg, South Carolina to Johnny and Alma Sewell. Jackie has lived in Calhoun County most of his life. Jackie was a superintendent in the oil fields for over 40 years and spent his last years managing his own timber tracts and doing some of his own logging. Jackie was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Sewell, his sister Margaret Tatum, his father Johnny Sewell, his Mother Alma Sewell, and Bear his beloved dog. Though we have said that our mother was the “Rock” of our family our father was the GLUE. You can search the world over, but you will never find anyone that truly Loved people the way our father did. He never met a stranger. He could be all the way across the world and find someone he was related to. He had a Heart of Gold, and he had a gift for talking for hours. He loved telling stories, and he always made you feel special and loved. He loved his family and community unconditionally and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was never judgmental, and everyone had worth in his eyes. He is an example of the kind of person that we should all strive to be! There is a hole that will never be filled with his passing, but we take comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with our mother in heaven. Please keep our family in your prayers for we are so lost without him. Survivors include son, Shannon Sewell of Altha; daughters, Tammy Young of Altha, Gail Ward and husband Byron of Marianna, Dana Cole and husband John of Altha; grandchildren, Sheridan, Cody, Taylor & husband Justin, Ciera & husband Logan, John Wayne, Courtney, Morgan, Cheyenne, and Alissa; great grandchildren, Trenton, Hailey, Raelynn, Elijah; special nieces and nephews, Sheri Taylor, Heather, John, Melissa, Susie, Teresa, Paula; best friend and brother-in-law Lloyd Tatum; best friend Darlene Tatum. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Page Pond Assembly of God. The viewing will be at 1:00 pm with services at 2:00 pm and Graveside to follow at the church. The family would also like you to join them for a fellowship meal following the services. All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, FL.

  1. You are all in our thoughts and prayers, loved him like a brother and spent so much of our lives working together offshore. Could not describe him any better than you all have, until we all meet again.
