Edith M. Cone, 93, died of natural causes on October 20, 2023, in the home of her daughter, Sharon Martin, Shepherdstown, WV. Mrs. Cone was born on December 3, 1929, in Norfolk, VA, the daughter of Edgar and Margaret Buell.
Edith graduated from West Palm Beach High School in 1947. Following graduation, she married Leslie Gene Cone, Sr. on September 4, 1948, and settled in Miami, for a time before moving to Graceville in 1978. Gene and Edith were married for 67 years. Mrs. Cone worked as a kindergarten teacher at Bird Road Baptist Preschool and Gateway Baptist Preschool (Miami) for many years. She was a fervent Christian, pastor’s wife, and was last a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Graceville, FL. Edith was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Many would remember the Cones from Cones Christmas Tree Farm which they owned and operated from 1980-2005.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cone was proceeded in death by her husband, Leslie Gene Cone, Sr., and her grandson, Gregory Paul Cone. Mrs. Cone is survived by her sons, Leslie Gene Cone, Jr. (Kimberly), W. David Cone (Elaine), and daughter, Sharon Ann Martin; grandchildren, Christopher Brian McKinley, Jana Alaine McKinley, Ryan Andrew McKinley, Amy Michelle Cone, Michael David Cone (Patty), Melissa Gene Burkhart (Aaron), and Kaitlynne Grace Cone; great-grandchildren Tavia McKinley Parrington, Bennett David Cone, Isabelle Caroline Dean, Graham Richard Cone, Matthew Aaron Burkhart, and Benjamin Samuel Burkhart.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 27 at Bethel Baptist Church, 1349 County Road 173, Graceville, FL with a brief calling hour at 10:30am. Mrs. Cone will be laid to rest next to her husband, Leslie Gene Cone, Sr., following the service at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing.
