On Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at approximately 10:20 PM, a Deputy with the Uniform Patrol Division was in the area of Highway 90 and Jefferson Street, when they observed a grey Kia Forte being operated with no headlights. A probable cause traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the driver, Carl Richardson. During the course of the traffic stop, K-9 “Rocky” was deployed to conduct a free-air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle. K-9 “Rocky” gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics emanating from the interior of the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted. A quantity of suspected cocaine was located inside the vehicle, which did subsequently field-test positive as of cocaine. Richardson was placed under arrest and transported to Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
