Vera Coker Steely, 84, of the Poplar Springs Community, entered her Heavenly home on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Mrs. Vera was born on March 11, 1940, to the late Arthur and Lucille Whiddon Coker. A 1958 graduate of Poplar Springs High School, Mrs. Vera married the love of her life William “Bert” Steely, Jr. on September 26, 1958. She has waited patiently to join her love since December 24, 2007. After retiring from Vanity Fair Mills, she then worked with the Russell Corporation before going to work with Easy Spirit Shoes where she retired to be home to enjoy her family. Mrs. Vera enjoyed Gospel music and being part of the convention singer’s family. She was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, daughter Pamela Steely Floyd, four siblings Bonnie Register, Evelyn Coker, Herman Coker and Wayne Coker.

She is survived by three daughters Janet Bush (Steve), Angela Steely, Kim Wood (Robert), twelve grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, sister Louise Merritt and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Home-going Celebration of Her Life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Biss officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing.

Family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, 10 a.m. until time of the service.
