Nina Mae Strickland, age 90, of Marianna, FL, passed away Monday, February 14, 2022 at her residence. Nina was born on January 20, 1932 in Marianna, FL. Nina and her husband, Elmer moved to South Florida where they lived for over 30 years. In 1983, they moved back to Marianna for retirement. Nina loved to fish in the pond on her property, growing roses, gardening and was always a helping hand when a family member needed help. More than anything, Nina loved and cherished her family and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mathew B. Porter and Ella McQuaig Porter; late husbands, Elmer Varnum and Curtis Strickland; son, Norman “Earl” Varnum; brothers, Ira Porter and Mathew B. Porter; sisters, Blanche Porter Boggs, Irene Mayo Shores, and Mary Lou Porter Hussey.
Nina is survived by her son, Wayne Phillip Varnum of Marianna, FL; one grandchild, Aaron Phillip Varnum of San Antonio, TX; and one great grandson, Jackson Phillip Varnum also of San Antonio, TX.
Funeral services will be 2 P.M., Monday, February 21, 2022 at Pilgrims Rest Assembly of God Church with Pastor Ellis Vickery and Wayne Varnum officiating. Interment will follow in Vickery Cemetery with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1 P.M. until the time of service at the church.
