James Ronald Melvin, age 90, of Marianna, Florida passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. Ronald was born on December 15, 1933, in Marianna Florida where he spent the rest of his life, except for his time of service to his country in the United States Army.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jenell Raines Melvin, three daughters, Jeannine Russell, Julie Barnes (Greg Grant), Charlene Graddy (Bret), one son, David K. Melvin (Tammy), 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one sister, Flora Pumphrey, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Enoch and Lula Melvin, as well as his sister, Linda Sue Oliva.
Ronald, was a devoted husband, father, grandaddy, and friend. He was a committed member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and faithfully kept the church and the grounds clean for many years. He worked at Lehigh Furniture in Marianna for over 33 years. He was known for his gardening, especially his blueberries. His catfish ponds brought a lot of joy to him, and many others who fished there through the years. Herbal remedies and natural cures were of great interest to him. He loved sharing the knowledge he gleaned from his research with others. Many people were helped by him sharing his knowledge with them. Cutting grass was his favorite pastime and he was still cutting grass and weed-eating until just a few days before his passing.
Funeral service will be 10 AM, Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Rocky Creek Baptist Church with Reverends Michael Murray and Luther Pumphrey officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the Rocky Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will accept flowers, however, donations may also be made to the Rocky Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
