Alice Laverne Powell, 90, of the Dellwood Community, died Monday, October 21, 2019 at her residence.
Laverne was born September 23, 1929 in Dellwood to the late Thomas Alvin and Leasie McKellar Allen. She was a lifelong resident of the Dellwood Community and was a member of the Bascom United Methodist Church. Laverne had a servant’s heart and enjoyed caring for her family and friends. She retired from the Florida State Hospital as a Unit Treatment Rehab Specialist after 32 years of dedicated service.
Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Howell Powell; son, Eddie Powell; parents, Thomas and Leasie McKellar; and three brothers, Alfred Allen, Alvin “Dan” Allen, and Lafayette Allen; and special friend, Paul Keels.
She is survived by her three daughters, Jean Johnson and husband, Roland of Ashford, AL, Sandra Simmons of Crawfordville, FL, and Marilyn Broome of Grand Ridge; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; one cousin, Gracie Mehrtens.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Cypress Community Church with Reverends Rolan Bamburg & Mike Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Welcome Assembly of God Church Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Cypress Community Church.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gregory Hall and the wonderful staff at Donalsonville Hospital, as well as, the excellent staff at Covenant Hospice for the care given to their mother during this time.
