Valerie May Mixon, age 60, was welcomed into her heavenly home and granted her angel wings on September 27, 2019. Valerie was born on May 24, 1959 in Royal Oak, Michigan. She was a woman of strong faith and lived life to serve others. Valerie enjoyed spending time with friends, family and serving her Lord at First Baptist Church in Sneads, Florida. She took pride in having a spotless, clean house and enjoyed gardening. Valerie was a precious woman of God and all who knew her, loved her dearly. She was always there to brighten the lives of others. Valerie and her devoted loving husband, Richard, had a collaborative and caring relationship. Their marriage was based on their faith, mutual support and a deep love for one another. Valerie’s family were the pride and joy of her life. She was a devout Christian, a wonderful mother, a loving wife, and good friend to many. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but never forgotten.
Valerie is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years, Richard Mixon; a daughter, Amanda Mixon Lewis and her husband Chris of Massachusetts; a son, Rickey Mixon of Grand Ridge, Florida; her mother, Geneva; four sisters, Ruth Ann, Shelia, Debbie, and Yvonne; two grandchildren, Wren and Graham Lewis; one aunt, Louise and two special cousins, Kevin and Michelle McLemore as well as many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Covenant Hospice for their faithful loving care of Mrs. Valerie as well as her attending physicians, Dr. Scott Tetrault, Dr. Kirk Sturrage and Dr. Robin Albritton along with their nursing staff.
A Celebration of Life service will begin at 10:00 AM Central Time on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Sneads with Rev. Robert Johns officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be Monday, September 30, 2019 at McAlpin Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Central Time. Interment will be at Dykes Cemetery in Sneads, Florida.
