Mary Sue Glover Donaldson, age 79, of Marianna, FL, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 25, 2023 in Marianna, Florida surrounded by her family and closest friends. Her love and devotion to her husband, children and grandchildren, along with her unwavering faith in God, Sue was the beloved Matriarch of the Donaldson family.
Sue was born on December 20, 1943 in Quincy, FL to Elsie and James Glover. She joined her older sister, Barbara, and would later welcome two younger brothers, Joe and Rick. She graduated from Quincy Shanks High School in 1961. Sue continued her education at Chipola Junior College and then went on to receive her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Education from Florida State University in 1965. Following graduation, Sue taught elementary school at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida before marrying Harold Donaldson and moving to Marianna in 1966 which would become her permanent home.
Sue and Harold went on to have three children; Tanya, John and Mary, and were happily married for 56 years. During that time, Sue taught school at both Golson and Riverside Elementary Schools in Marianna while completing her Masters of Education Degree from West Florida University in 1995. Sue was an active member of the Marianna Junior Women’s Club and Altrusa International Service Club. She was also a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Marianna where she served as a Church Librarian, chairperson of the Bereavement Committee and chairperson of the Women’s Touch Outreach Ministry for 20 years. She was also an active member and Class Officer of the Ruth Sunday School Class which was very dear to her heart.
She was well known for her beautiful smile, her sweet spirit and her genuine love and concern for all people. Sue quickly made strangers, a friend, and was an encourager to everyone who knew her.
In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, interior decorating, watching the sunset at Mexico Beach, hosting family gatherings in her home and especially spending time with her beloved grandchildren. Her legacy of love for God and His people will live on through each one of them.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elsie Alford Glover and brother-in-law, James Craven.
She leaves behind her husband of 56 years, John Harold Donaldson; son, John Donaldson and wife, Brooke; two daughters, Tanya Wiggins and fiancé, Frank Brown, Mary Locke and husband, Jimmy; grandchildren, Blake and Brady Donaldson, Sam and Ben Wiggins, Lauren, Emily and Jacob Locke; two brothers, Joe Glover and wife, Bonnie and Richard Glover; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Monday, February 27, 2023 at The Family Life Center at First Baptist Church Marianna.
Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at The Family Life Center at First Baptist Church Marianna with Pastor Vince Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.
