Stephen Allen Bates, age 67, of Grand Ridge, FL, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at his residence.
Stephen was born in Michigan on December 3, 1953 to Cecil H. Bates, Jr. and Margaret Stafford. Moving to Jackson County in 1963, Stephen was employed with Baxter Asphalt since the age of 15. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil H. Bates, Jr., and wife, Laura Elizabeth Bates.
Stephen is survived by his mother, Margaret Hebets of Tallahassee, FL; son, Charles Frederick Brooks of Grand Ridge, FL; brothers, Gary Bates and wife, Nikki of Michigan, Joseph Bates and wife, Betty of Georgia, Daniel Hebets of Michigan, Keith Hebets and wife, Nilia of Florida; grandchildren, Destiny Paige Floyd; and great grandchild, Ellabeth Irene Floyd.
No services are planned at this time. Memorialization will be by cremation with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
