Shelby Jean Grimsley, 79, of Greenwood, Florida passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2020. She was born in Grand Ridge, Florida on April 26, 1940 to Pete Hobbs and Allie Hamilton Hobbs. Shelby enjoyed sitting on the porch, working in her yard, doing arts & crafts and gardening, but most of all she loved preparing and sharing Sunday dinners with her family. She was a long-time member of Circle Hill Baptist Church. Shelby was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with her family and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Shelby is survived by her daughter, Vickie McAlpin and her husband Ted of Greenwood, FL; one grandson, Kenneth McAlpin of Greenwood, FL; a sister, Shirley Hartley of Cairo, GA; a brother Ralph Hobbs and his wife Diane of Grand Ridge, FL; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Shelby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 38 years, James A. Grimsley; a brother, James Gilley and a sister, Jessie Lee Tyus.
Due to the ongoing concern regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family graveside service will be held at Circle Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with McAlpin Funeral Home directing.
