Sara Rena Slaughter, age 76, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Cottonwood, AL on October 4, 1945, to Charles and Geraldine Tharp. Sara was a long-time resident of Chattahoochee, FL. She was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church and loved her church family dearly. Sara retired after 33 years of service with Florida State Hospital. Besides spending time with her friends and family, Sara had a passion for crocheting and blessing others with a gift she created. She often enjoyed watching Hallmark movies. Sara was a kind and gentle person who will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert, her daughters Lisa Poston and Laura Watts of Grand Ridge, FL; her sister Faye Baxley of Youngstown, FL as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Geraldine Tharp; two sisters, Betty Porter and Wynell Melvin; her only brother Jerry Tharp, and her only granddaughter Tianna Poston.
The family would like to give specials thanks to the staff from Covenant Care Hospice for their exceptional loving care during her final weeks.
Serving as pallbearers are Harry Gilley, Sam Corbett, Roy Roberts, Freddie Wilson, Nolan Coumbe and Chris Roberts.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 12:30 PM Eastern Time at Calvary Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, FL with Rev. Mark Moore officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to funeral services. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
