Samuel Lewis Bowden, Sr. affectionately known as “Sonny”, “Chopper”, departed this life on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 in Caryville, Florida.
He was born on November 13, 1959, in Jackson County Florida to Mary Lee Curry and Frank Pittman.
Sonny was a multi-talented, self taught professional handyman that could repair anything. Sonny was a friendly, very sociable person that made lifelong friendships with everyone he met. During his life on earth, he enjoyed fishing, mechanic work, carpentry camping and watching FSU football games, but above all, he loved spending time with his loved ones. Before his passing, Sonny accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and professed Christianity.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lee Curry and Frank Pittman, a daughter, Consuela Bowden and a brother, Johnny Dean.
He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters: Sonya King of DeFuniak Springs and Crystal Jones of Orlando; two sons: Carlos Bowden of Graceville and Samuel Jones of Melbourne, Florida; two maternal sisters: Irae Dickson (James) Cottondale, Florida and Brenda Pittman (John) both of Marianna, Florida. Four paternal sisters: Barbara J. Pittman, Pastor Jacquelyn Pittman (Pastor Flavious), Leontyne Pittman all of Florida; Wanda Pittman of Washington D.C.; and four paternal brothers: Pastor Napoleon Pittman, (Phyllis), Ricky Pittman, Frank Pittman, Jr. and Jethro Pittman all of Florida; two aunts: Elizabeth Curry and R. Bell Curry; four grandchildren: Bruce Jones, Jr., Dayla Collins, Jaylin Bowden and Zi’Khari Bowden; special friends: James and Kathleen Ard of Caryville, Florida and Princes Jones, Sr. of Panama City, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, acquaintances, and friends that will miss him dearly.
Public visitation will be Friday, January 20, 2023, 3:00-6:00 PM, in the M. Sue and Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street, Graceville, Florida.
A celebration of life will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 21, 2023, in the M. Sue and Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street, Graceville, Florida.
Interment will follow in the St. Paul/New Bethel Cemetery, 5180 Highway 273, Campbellton, FL under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.
