Rachel A. Locke, 91, a lifelong resident of Gadsden County, Florida passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. She was born to the late Benjamin E. Chester and Mamie A. Edwards Chester on November 23, 1929. Rachel was an active member of Sycamore United Methodist Church her entire life. Rachel had a servant’s heart and spent countless hours helping others, visiting neighbors, and checking on the shut-ins. She retired from the Florida State Hospital after many years of service as a switchboard operator. Rachel enjoyed gardening, cooking; she loved spending time with her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren.

Rachel is survived by her sons, Dale E. Locke and his wife Judy of Tallahassee and Curtis W. Locke and his wife Pam of Chattahoochee; one daughter, Carolyn Faye Smith of Woodstock, GA; eleven grandchildren, Chad Locke (Angie), Stacie Arnold (Luke), Justin Locke (Jessica), Ryan Locke, Melissa Corson (Jeff), Melanie Coats, Christy Phillips, Travis Locke, Lisa Naliwajki (Kerry), Laura Ventura, and Chris Hall (Aaron). She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a special friend, Marinda Wilson.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin Locke; one son, Jerry Locke; a son-in-law, John Smith.

Graveside services will be held at Sycamore Cemetery in Sycamore, FL on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. Eastern Time with Rev. Charles Stephens officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 21, 2021 in the McAlpin Funeral Home in Sneads, FL from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sycamore United Methodist Church (3246 Sycamore Road, Quincy, FL 32351) or Big Bend Hospice Foundation (1723 Mahan Center Blvd.

Tallahassee, FL 32308).

All of the arrangements are under the direction of McAlpin Funeral Home.
