Patricia Ann “Pat” Whiddon Mitchem, 87, of Brewton, AL, a faithful servant of the Lord, passed in to her final reward on February 26, 2023.
She was born in Chattahoochee, FL, where she attended Cypress Elementary School and later graduated from Marianna High school in 1953.
After graduation she relocated to Pensacola, FL beginning work as a charter employee with Chemstrand Nylon Plant in 1953 as a Draw Twist Operator.
She married Nolen G. “Sam” Mitchem in 1956 making their family home in Gonzalez, FL where they began their family. In 1962 they relocated to Brewton, AL, where they established their residence in the McCall/Keego community; she then choose to stay at home to raise their four daughters.
Shortly there after, she began to worship at Catawba Springs Baptist Church. There she understood the plan of salvation and was baptized into the Lord‘s church for the remission of her sins. For the following 60 years she was a faithful servant within the church; teaching fourth grade girls Sunday School Class, volunteering with WMU (Womens Missionary Union), and realizing her greatest fulfillment came while ministering to senior adults within the church and community. She could always be found in their homes, at their hospital bedside or reading to them in the nursing home. Giving encouragement to those through the simple act of friendship. In later years, while becoming a senior adult herself, she found new ways to reach out and encourage others through phone calls, letters and cards. The gift of her compassion and time would end up being one of her greatest legacies.
She was preceded in death by her parents James Leslie Whiddon, Sr. and Willie Amanda Williams Whiddon. Brothers James Leslie Whiddon, Jr, Charles Durrant Whiddon and sister Katherine Whiddon Conoly. Her most heartfelt loss was that of her three year old daughter, Leslie Kay Mitchem.
She is survived by three daughters, Gwen (Dave) Greene of Sunny Hills, FL, Cynthia (Lemond) Simmons of Brewton AL, and Mandee (Randy) Mullinax of Birmingham AL; two grandchildren, Jim (Coley) Simmons of Saraland, AL and Peri Lane Mullinax of Homewood, AL; three great-grandchildren, Maelee, Ava and Nolen Simmons.
