THE JACKSON COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES POSITIVE COVID-19 CASE MARIANNA

The Jackson County Health Department (JCHD) announces a positive case of 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Jackson County. The individual is a 33-year old male with a domestic and international travel history. He did seek medical care, is isolated and will continue to remain isolated until cleared by public health officials. Sandy Martin, Jackson County Health Officer stated, “We are working closely with the patient, close contacts and healthcare providers to determine what additional COVID-19 testing may be required. We are also coordinating with local and state officials to ensure proper precautions are being taken to prevent the spread of the virus. I want to stress that social distancing is key to protect those who are most at risk – individuals age 65 and older and those with underlying medical conditions.”

The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners issued the following statement concerning the positive test, “The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners have been individually briefed on the update from the Florida Department of Health. In an ongoing effort to discourage groups of ten or more people gathering in one place, the Board decided not to call a special meeting to share this information, but to share this through our media sources. The County Commissioners have access to frequent updates from the Florida Department of Health and are continuing to monitor the information as it is made available.”
