Press Release

On 7-3-20 at approximately 10:21 p.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a verbal domestic altercation that was occurring on Piano Rd. near Graceville. The Sheriff’s Office requested mutual aid assistance from the Graceville Police Department while in route, due to the fact that the closest deputy was approximately 20 minutes away. While both agencies were in route, dispatch received another call that the suspect, Jacky Richard Davis, had begun firing shots in the yard of the victim. When the Graceville officer arrived, witnesses reported that Davis had left on a vehicle and was intoxicated. As the officer was gathering information, he observed a vehicle pass by several times that matched the description of the one driven by the suspect. As he got closer the Officer was able to confirm that it was the suspect vehicle. When the officer activated his emergency lights and siren, Davis fled at a high rate of speed. During the course of the pursuit, the suspect returned to the scene of the original confrontation and began driving around in circles in the front yard of the victim, with the officer in pursuit. They then re-entered the roadway and traveled down a series of roads in the northwest portion of the county. Once on Fowler Rd. the suspect fled from the vehicle on foot into a wooded area. Assistance from the K-9 Tracking Teams from Jackson Correctional Institution and Apalachee Correctional Institution was requested. A track was developed which continued for approximately 2 ½ miles through the woods. Davis was found hiding in a tree. He was taken into custody and lodged in the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance. While being placed in the car and on the way to the jail, Davis repeatedly made threats toward the Officers and their families. He was charged by the Sheriff’s Office with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, tampering with evidence, reckless driving and threatening a public servant and he was also charged with aggravated fleeing or eluding by the GPD. The JCSO would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the GPD for their assistance in bringing this Career Violent Felony Offender to justice as well as the K-9 Tracking Teams from JCI and ACI and the Florida Highway Patrol.
