Ms. Mary Elizabeth Johnson was born on February 14, 1943 to the late Jake Tripp and the late Ethel Russ Johnson in Cottondale, Florida. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Henshaw Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. She served as a class leader, the President of Choir #2, Sunbeam Choir, Member of the Kitchen Committee, Trustee, Sunday Morning Band #363 member, and on the Usher Board.

Ms. Johson was preceded in death by her son, Gregory B. Johnson. She worked at Warner Brothers, Jackson Aparel, Hardee’s, and West Point Stevens. She enjoyed cooking Sunday meals for her church, family and friends. She was known for baking the infamous “5 Flavored Pound Cake” and the “Honey Bun Cake”. Her favorite place was sitting on her back porch with family and friends. She greeted everyone with a big smile and always made sure you did not leave her home hungry or without a plate. She loved singing her favorite songs “Writing God a Letter” and “Lord I’ve done what you told me to do!” Mary will be missed by her dear loved ones.

Ms. Mary Elizabeth Johnson passed peacefully on Thursday, December 24, 2020 in Signature Health Care in Graceville, Florida.

Graveside services for Ms. Mary E. Johnson will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 12 Noon in Bethlehem African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery with the Reverend Lawrence Gantt officiating. Vann Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 1, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM from the Chapel of Vann Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hensahw Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church Choir #1 in memory of Mary E. Johnson where she served as President.

Four Brothers: Joseph Johnson (Catherine) of Tallahassee, Florida; James Johnson (Patti Jo) of Panama City, Florida; Arthur Johnson (Doris) of Spring Lake, North Carolina; and Nathaniel Johnson of Newark, New Jersey

Grandchildren: Shyron (Charise) Johnson; Gregory Bo Johnson; Candace Johnson; Deshane Daniels, Tacara Long; Jeremi Johson, Juwon Johnson, Sha’terrykah Lee; Brianna Johnson

Raised as her Grandchildren: Mulikua Gilmore (Ken) and Shavonne Bell

Great Grandchildren: Khariah, Kamron, Marquis, Alayah, Lamond, and Zaevion

Sister-in-Law: Lucinda White of Newark, New Jersey

Special Niece and Caregiver: Virgil Bell of Cottondale, Florida

Godchildren: Cathy Bellamy of Tallahassee, Florida; Leslie Potter of Cottondale, Florida; and Kimberly Moore of Albany, Georgia

Special Family: The Branning and Rogers family of Cottondale; and the Senior Citizen members

And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
