Ms. Dolly Jean Boyd age 75 of Blountstown, FL passed away Saturday August 28th at Calhoun-Liberty hospital following a brief illness.


Graveside services will be held 1p.m. Friday September 10th at Magnolia Cemetery located 326 13th St Blountstown, FL with Rev. Angus Jackson officiating and with Mckinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton, FL directing.

Visitation for family and friends will be held 4 to 6p.m. Thursday September 9th at the Shira Sr. and Chelcie Memorial Chapel located 5304 Bowden Hill Rd Campbellton, FL.

Dolly Jean Boyd was born August 5, 1946 in Blountstown, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elmore and O’Neal McCullough Boyd, her beloved Uncle Watios(Uncle Booga) and Aunt Estelle who raised her lovingly, and her siblings Henry oyd, Mary Yon, Mary Williams, Alfred McCullough, Milton Boyd, Georgiann Boyd, Janette Boyd, and Watios Boyd.

Dolly Jean (Doll) Boyd is survived by her loving son Brian Anthony Boyd(Marquita Williams caring daughter-in-law), her brothers Monroe Boyd of Sanford, FL, Elmore Boyd(Juanita) of Hugh Creek, FL, William Boyd of Marianna, FL, Jessie Boyd of Blountstown, FL. She held a special place in her heart for Allen Gregory McCullough (Margie), Daryl Wade Williams, Aaron Austin Boyd, and her close friend Sandra Diane Bernard and god-son Learon Bernard. She has an array of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends that will mourn her passing.

Doll graduated from Mayhaw School before attending FAMU. She moved to Chester, Pa around 1968. There she worked as a clerk for Delaware County Housing Authority. She returned to Blountstown in 1988. She went to work for Junior Food Store in Bristol, FL where she served people with kind words and a friendly smile. She passionately enjoyed tutoring and aiding children. About 1990 she started with the VISTA Family Literacy and Parenting Grant program. She was trained as a reading specialist using the Great Leaps curriculum. She applied the training by working with the students at Blountstown Elementary. After the grant program was completed, she went to work for Kmart in Marianna, FL. Customers experienced pleasant and courteous service until the store closed in 2002. Ms. Dolly thoroughly enjoyed her time at Kmart but she soon returned to work with literacy. She joined the Calhoun County Library staff. She was promoted to Blountstown Library Branch Manager and Circulation Manager. She felt tremendous joy interacting with children during the Florida Library Youth Program held during the summer. She continuously encouraged others to strive for the best. She retired from the library in 2019. Doll loved her family tremendously, consistently rallying the younger generations to come together for family unity. She enjoyed reading mysterious and puzzles books. She loved listening to music and watching television with loved ones. In her spare time, she was amongst the regulars at Mr. Bingo in Marianna, FL.
