On January 23rd in the Gulf Coast Medical Center, Ms. Bernice Barnes of Marianna, Florida passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior at the age of 84.
She was of the Methodist faith and a faithful member of the Mt. Shiloh A.M.E. Church in Bascom where she served as a Stewardess, choir director and performed missionary work.
Some of her many accomplishments also includes: Worked eight years as a CNA at Group Care Home in Donalsonville, Georgia; Foster parent for 30+ years; Gospel singer, performed at churches and community gatherings in Florida, Georgia and Alabama; Organized community gatherings at her home which included free food, sports and dancing; and Organizing fund raising events to assist those in need.
To forever cherish her memories and continue her legacy are ten children; Otis, Choice, Clauzell, Vonda, James, Dante, Willie, Patrick, Michael and Billy; five grandchildren, Ciara Jones, Joshua Barnes, Mallik Barnes, Dante Barnes, Jr. and Shawn Barnes; two great grandchildren, Chase and Camdyn Jones; one sister, Cleveola Jetter; one brother, Lonnie Johnson and wife Mary; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held graveside on Saturday, January 30th at 11a.m. at Mt. Shiloh A.M.E. Church Cemetery with Pastor Abraham Johnson and Rev. Leroy McLeroy officiating. Interment will follow with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
