Mrs. Mary Porter Sims of Greenwood, Florida entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 1st at home surrounded by a caring and devoted family. She was 73 years old.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Union Grove High School. She retired from the Department of Corrections, where she worked as a Correctional Officers for 23 years.
She leaves treasured memories with her husband, Robert A. Sims, Sr. of Greenwood, Florida; three sons, Robert A. Sims, Jr., Marcus T. Sims and Nickalus D. Sims all of Greenwood, Florida; one sister, Sandra L. Evans of Rochester, New York; one brother, Walter J. Porter of Dothan, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Vincy Porter (Juan) of Orlando, Florida, Pearline Moultrie of Greenwood, Florida and Gwendolyn Ward (James) of Panama City, Florida; brothers-in-law, James Sims, Charles Sims (Shirley), Wesley Sims (Rosilind), Roy Chester Sims all of Greenwood, Florida and Emanuel Sims (Donna) of Clearwater, Florida; two aunts, Lula Kelly of Marianna, Florida and Lettie C. White of Greenwood, Florida; eight grandchildren, Priscilla Sims, LaPorsha Pittman, Roesha Sims, JaMarcus Sims, Jamarion Kirkland, Latrez Sims, Jacari Sims and Admad Sims; seven great grandchildren, Juh’re Zayn, Ge’honesti Davis, Gevioni Davis, Genie Davis, Gary Davis, Ryleigh Thomas and Raniya Thomas; three godchildren, Lakiesha Sims-Daniels, Kayleanna and Kyngston Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
A Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, August 10th at 11am at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor, Moderator Dwight Cockerham, Sr., Reverend Dr. David Cobb, Reverend Timothy White, Reverend Kenneth C. Baker and Reverend Dr. Isaac Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
