Mrs. Elizabeth Watford Joyner

Graveside Services for Mrs. Elizabeth Watford Joyner, age 84 years, of Inverness, will be held 11:00 AM Monday, February 20, 2023 at St. Lukes Episcopal Cemetery, Marianna. Interment will follow. Elizabeth was born April 29, 1938 in Greenwood, FL and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 2, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1956 where she was active in many sports such as girls basketball, softball and volleyball. Elizabeth was a cheerleader, President of the Beta Club, Honor Society and salutatorian of her graduating class, Homecoming Queen and voted “A Leader for all Occasions”. She received her B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University, Tallahassee; a Masters Degree in Gifted Education from the University of South Florida and did post-graduate work in Administration, Supervision and Curriculum. Elizabeth was Coordinator of Education for Gifted Children in the primary and middle schools of Citrus County. The program was recognized as the Best Gifted Education Program in the State of Florida in 1979. She also received a community service award from the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce for her work with gifted students. She was preceded in death by her parents: Lucile V. Oswald and Charles Leslie Watford Sr. and her brother: Charles L. Watford Jr. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 56 years: Rayburn N. Joyner; her sister: Patricia Watford Motley; nieces and nephews: Charles B. (Sandra) Watford, Lucinda Watford (David) Dingess, Preston A. (Becky) Watford, and Patrick L. Long. Arrangements are under the direction of the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes.
