Mr. Samuel Chester “Doc” Basford Sr. age 79 of Sneads, Florida passed away on December 25, 2020 at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. He was born in Dellwood, Florida on April 6, 1941 to the late Renzie and Susie Daniels Basford. Chester spent most of his life in Jackson and Gadsden Counties, where he was Co-owner of Basford Well Drilling for thirty plus years and a firefighter for Florida State Hospital for thirty-five years and one month. Chester was a vital part of the First Baptist Church of Chattahoochee where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for the Senior Class and the Highschool Class. He also drove the church bus for the Youth Choir and the 39ers Choir.

Chester looked forward to planting a garden each year so that he could give fresh vegetables to the less fortunate, shut ins, and widows. He also enjoyed being outside on his tractor and delivering Meals on Wheels, but his greatest love was his children and grandchildren.

Chester is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Frances Dean Basford of Sneads, Florida; two sons, Samuel Chester Basford Jr. of Grand Ridge, Florida and Joseph Daniel Basford and wife Kayren of Dellwood, Florida; one brother, Lester Basford and wife Myrtle of Marianna, Florida; three sisters, Faye Harrison and husband Jimmy of Boaz, Alabama, Eldis Pope of Dellwood, Florida, Maxine Hamilton and husband Johnny of Dellwood, Florida; four grandchildren, Joseph Wade Basford, Linsey Elizabeth Basford, Lexie Nicole Basford, and Delaney Maclay Basford. He is also survived by “Doc’s Buddy”, J.J. Dolan and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Chester is preceded in death by his parents, Renzie and Susie Daniels Basford; two brothers, Hershel Basford and Alfred Basford; one sister, Ann Richardson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. EST in the First Baptist Church of Chattahoochee with Pastor Robert Johns, Pastor Warren Fox, and Pastor Bill Mayo officiating. Burial will follow at Cow Pen Pond Cemetery in Grand Ridge, Florida.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, attendees are asked to observe all CDC guidelines, by practicing social distancing and wearing a face covering.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chester’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Chattahoochee general fund (503 Mainstreet, Chattahoochee, FL 32324).
