Mr. Richard Calvin Cotton

In humble submission to the will of God we respectfully announce the earthly transition of Mr. Richard Calvin Cotton on December 26, 2021, in the comfort of his home in Marianna, Florida. He was 76 years old and a native of Jackson County, Florida.

Richard was blessed with the breath of life on August 31, 1945. He was graced with the opportunity to be raised in love by Harvey C. and Gertrude E. Cotton, in Jackson County, Florida. He was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was a member of the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church of Marianna, Florida. Richard was a 1963 graduate of the Jackson County Training School, a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the St. Joseph Masonic Lodge #99 since 2002 and held several positions until his death: currently serving as the Chaplin.

Richard was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Francis Cotton in 1982 and one child was reared. He loved to be with this family and would always have a joke to tell. His wisdom, strength, and love will be cherished in the hearts of those whom he loved and who loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife of 40 years: Mary Francis Cotton of Marianna, Florida; daughter: Michon J. (Haywood, Jr.) Thomas of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren: Damian Thomas, Dominique Thomas, and Dadrianna Thomas; sis sisters-in-law: Dorothy McCray, Gloria Russ, Easter Russ, Angela Russ, Shelly Holland, and Pamela Davis; three brothers-in-law: Eddie Russ, Jr., Floyd Russ, and Howard Hall; best friend: Charles Crawford; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Richard’s Life & Committal Service will be held 11 AM CST, Saturday, January 8, 2022, from the sacred grounds of the Orange Hill Cemetery of Marianna, Florida with Rev. Riley J. Henderson, and Rev. David Green, officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 7, 2022, from 3-6 PM CST, Friday, January 7, 2022, in the Cooper Funeral Home Chapel of Chipley, Florida.

The remains will lie in repose at the cemetery 1hr. prior to services on Saturday. Family and friends may express condolences online at www.cooperfhchipley.com.
